The Mona Lisa.
The Statue of David.
All of these are magnificent works of art. They have inspired, uplifted, and awed those who have been lucky enough to gaze upon them. They reside in the world’s finest museums, homes of marble and granite in cities of grandeur, and are given the utmost praise and acknowledgement. Extraordinary lengths have been taken to protect these great works from theft or damage, with thousands upon thousands of dollars invested in state-of-the art securities to insure their safety.
Why? Why have mansions been built to house them? Why have millions been spent to protect them? Why are millions spent to possess them? Why are we drawn to them?
They have worth.
They have value.
They have substance, a weight to them, that touches our souls as we gaze into Mona Lisa’s eyes or comprehend the brushstrokes that created the yellow stars upon the midnight blue background of the Starry Night’s canvas. The attention to detail overwhelms us. They are a masterpiece.
But there is one work of art man can never re-create. Try and try as he might an artist will fail every time he puts brush to canvas, chisel to stone, hand to the potter’s wheel, or pencil to paper. A work of art so exquisite in design and function it cannot be duplicated. There is only one original. There are no seconds.
You are a masterpiece.
You have value.
You have worth.
You have substance.
You have meaning.
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”(Ps. 139:13-16 ESV)
You were created by the Creator. He knows you. He loves you. He has bestowed upon you gifts and talents to accomplish your purpose in life, for He gave you a purpose to fulfill, and you will never be satisfied until you have found that purpose.
You are unique. There is no one else like you on this planet. Your personality, your attitude, and your emotions were all given to you by the Creator and are uniquely fitted to you.
You are His masterpiece. You are His muse
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2: 10 ESV)
Your ultimate goal in this life is to hear your calling and to find your purpose. To use your gifts, talents, and abilities to help your fellow-man and understand your role in the all-encompassing drama of creation. To find your story and live it to your fullest extent. You must live your life in a manner which makes you fully alive.
There is only one way to accomplish this. You must realize your worth. You must realize your value. You must realize your meaning.
We have been disillusioned to associate worth with accomplishments or status, value with what we can offer, and meaning with what we mean to others.
Your worth does not lie in accomplishments or status. Your value does not lie in the skills you can offer. Your meaning does not lie in the opinions others hold about You. God chooses you not because of what you can do, but because you are willing to do that which He asks of you.
Your worth, your value, and your meaning lie within the Creator. Your worth is in the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ. Your value is in being adopted as sons and daughters by the Father. Your meaning is in the love God has for you. The same love, once it resides in you, pours out to others in desperate need of love in their own lives.
You are the change.
You are the catalyst.
You are the healing.
Remember who you are. Remember your worth. Remember your value. Remember your meaning. Do not let the trials of this life make you forget. Do not lose your hope. Do not lose your faith. Do not lose your love.
He loves you.
He cares for you.
You are His masterpiece.
